Spousal Sponsorship Canada (Bring Your Partner to Canada)

Sponsor your spouse or partner for permanent residence and reunite your family in Canada.

WHAT IS SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP?

Spousal sponsorship is a Canadian immigration program that allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor their spouse or partner to become a permanent resident of Canada.

The purpose of this program is to help families live together in Canada. It applies to legally married spouses, common-law partners (living together for at least 12 months), and in some cases, conjugal partners.

To qualify, the sponsor must meet certain requirements, including being at least 18 years old and able to support their partner financially. The relationship must be genuine and not entered into primarily for immigration purposes. Immigration authorities carefully review the relationship and supporting documents to confirm authenticity.

There are two main types of spousal sponsorship:

  • Inland Sponsorship โ€“ when the sponsored partner is already in Canada
  • Outland Sponsorship โ€“ when the partner is outside Canada

The application involves submitting detailed forms, proof of relationship (such as photos, communication history, and travel records), and supporting documents. In some cases, interviews may be required.

A successful spousal sponsorship application leads to permanent residence, allowing the sponsored partner to live, work, and build a future in Canada.
